Nasal Periceptor Processes

چکیده
There are myriads of odorous molecules that we perceive and it is remarkable that most of us seem to have very similar odor impressions that originate from a specific stimulus and the sense of smell appears to be robust during much of a lifetime. When perceiving scents, olfactory receptor (OR) proteins are at work to translate chemical information into neuronal signals that are decoded in the olfactory cortex to provide us with an odor image. Proposed in the middle of the last century but only substantiated with intriguing laboratory data during the last decade, there are enzymes expressed at high levels in the olfactory mucosa, and they metabolize xenobiotics including odorants and produce many new chemical species. Examples demonstrate that such perireceptor events can alter the receptor-dependent activation pattern in the olfactory neuroepithelium, which has an impact on the quality and the intensity of odor 28.1 Xenobiotic-Metabolizing Enzymes in the Olfactory Epithelium .................. 608

متن کاملNasoalveolar Molding: A new Method for Cleft Lip and Palate Rehabilitation
Introduction: Cleft lip and palate is a congenital anomaly occurring in 3 in 1000 live birth. One the major concern in this patient is about cleft gap and its surgical problems. Several surgical and non-surgical procedures have been done to decrease this gap. They aimed to achieve the more esthetic results as well as feeding success. Nasoalveolar Molding (NAM) is a new method for reshaping nasa...
متن کامل[Histological study of facial development in rat embryos by indirect immunofluorescence and autoradiography].
The distribution of certain basement membrane (BM) components was examined using indirect immunofluorescence and autoradiography during the facial development in rat embryos. At the onset of the nasal placode, fibronectin, laminin, type IV collagen and BM proteoglycan were found to be present especially at the epithelial-mesenchymal interface (BM) of the nasal placode, although the BM of the pr...
متن کاملCell proliferation during morphogenetic change; analysis of frontonasal morphogenesis in the chick embryo employing DNA labeling indices.
The role of cell proliferation was analyzed in the chick embryo system employing DNA labeling indices during the invagination of the olfactory placode and the development of the lateral and medial nasal processes. Chick embryos were labeled for 1 h with [H]thymidine and processed histologically and autoradiographically. The percentage of labeled mesenchymal cells in delineated areas within and ...

Knowing the anatomy of the nasal framework and its components, as well as their relations of size and shape is essential to correctly and safely perform nasal surgery, such as rhinoplasty. Symmetry and proportion of nasal bones and frontal processes of the maxilla related to patient’s skull shape is not yet well established. Variation of these proportions due to differences in skull shape may i...
